It’s National Write month. I don’t intend on participating because that’s January for me.
I’m actually a bit embarrassed to make these post. To be honest I feel like the stuff if common knowledge, especially if it’s something I’ve known about for a while. I always feel like I was late to the party when I learn something new. But I do like to try and frame things in different context. This week’s theme is Change.

What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again.
There is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say,
“Look! This is something new”?
It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time.
Ecclesiastes 1: 9-11
I got eight hours of sleep last night so I had some time to realize that stuff you think is good while you’re sleepy doesn’t always turn out to be good while you’re well rested. The cover, as grueling as it was to make, was very misleading about the premise of the story.
consumption is a story about Identity, waking up and finding you weren’t who you thought you were and having to adjust to being someone else completely even though you know you aren’t this person. However my main character “Kaseko” switched between being two different people in two different realities and only having the identity of one of them. The cover however looks like some tragic love story to the tune of Romeo and Juliet.
I still haven’t learned to throw useless stuff out so I posted it anyway. See that? We can’t have that! Kaseko is a soldier from a futuristic world where a war is heating up. Senna is a girl from modern times with nothing good going on in her life. So I scrapped the cover. Hmm, this is awkward. I can’t really think of anything else to say that isn’t either a spoiler or whiny. I do have a cold though and it’s slowing down progress quite a bit. My immune system isn’t very useful. But it’s not really too hard on my cold to sit at a desk.
I wanted to post the first chapter of Consumption today but I found my time consumed by drawing the cover picture. I haven’t finished it because the main character wears cornrows and it’s really hard to draw. It’s been hours and to add insult to injury, the parts aren’t even. In this time I could have learned how to cornrow and done a head or two full. I’m not used to drawing for an extended time or challenging myself. My avatar picture took me about ten minutes.
Her hand is missing, but I guess you noticed that already.
In any case I posted the first chapter of Fortune. It’s overhead and I started with a very cliché plotline for this chapter. Yeah, start my first chapter of my first post with a cliché plotline. That’s how I roll.
Unfortunately Anthony looks for trouble and while he doesn’t usually find it, Julian’s about as lucky as Eugene from Hey Arnold. (A kid’s show in which something bad happened to Eugene in every episode he dared to show his face in) Julian’s changed a lot from the character I intended for him to be. I was going to have him be a homeless drunkard who’s a few years older than Anthony. He seems to pretty much do whatever he feels like doing.
I’m going to post Consumption tomorrow because it’s nearly 3:00 AM and these late night post when I have to wake up early are not adding up. Next Monday I’m putting up a Character Spotlight.
This is a blog about writing and all aspects of it that concern me. That includes:
- Topics about finding “Inspiration” which usually happens while I’m bored
- Technical stuff that I’m trying to learn the nature and processes of
- Character spotlights on characters from published works
- Writing prompts
- Stories I’m working on
- Character work from stories I’m working on
- Commentary or questions about writing trends and what’s popular
- Stuff I draw… I’ve seen better but I still believe a picture’s worth 1000 words.
- A random Haiku at the bottom of each post
I’m not sure if I’m going to be much for book reviewing. I have a very short attention span and prefer to read textbooks and manga. I really like anime and manga but I’m not young anymore so I want my blog to have a mature look to it. Stories are updated on the second and third Friday. Some posted things might be revised. I’m always revising. I’ve read that it’s a bad idea in many places but that cannot be helped.
So, I’ll post one of the stories I’m working on tomorrow. Tomorrow for sure.
Self portrait I drew two years ago. I didn’t have a mirror and I knew the eyes were off but my erasor wasn’t having it.
Another chance lost to say

Why are they recommending I put a Fruits Basket tag on this page?
